"The Hengrun Myanmar Garment Factory is recruiting overtime without giving a whole month off", 7 July 2023
The Hengrun Myanmar Garment Factory is calling for overtime on Sundays and public [holidays], and factory workers say they don't get a day off.
This factory is owned by a Chinese citizen and opened in the Mya Green Industrial Zone in Hlaing Tharay Township.
The factory, which operates with a workforce of nearly 600, says that there are violations of labor rights, but no one has complained to the ministry.
"The WCC committee was formed, but I don't know who it is."… There is no day off, so my health was affected…" said a factory worker.
It is reported that factory workers have to work from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. every day, and they have already collected consent certificates for overtime until July 25th.
"The paper that they were asked [us[ to sign to agree to overtime is only until 6:00 p.m. But they asked me to go down until (8) o'clock…If you can't do it, [they say] you can leave…even if you are sick, you cannot take leave…There is no medicine to [take. I have to buy and [take it] by myself," he said.
In this factory, [they are supplying] HOUSE [and] brands such as BLUE WAVE…
After the coup d'état, factories have been calling for excessive overtime, and the Ministry of Labor has not yet taken any action.
