Activists in 10 countries protest at Chinese embassies over potential EACOP financing from Chinese state-owned financial institutions; incl. cos. non-responses
On June 26th, 2024, a coordinated global day of action saw hundreds of protesters gather outside Chinese embassies and financial institutions in 10 countries across Africa and Europe. The demonstrations, organized by Ugandan, Tanzanian, and other StopEACOP campaign members, called on China to reject financial support for the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) and related oil field projects. Protesters urged Chinese state-owned financial institutions, including SINOSURE, China Exim Bank, and ICBC, to reconsider their involvement in the project.
Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited SINOSURE, China Exim Bank, and ICBC to respond. They did not.
