Garment manufacturers in Cambodia have been criticised after calling for the country's minimum wage of US$190 per month for garment workers to be suspended for the duration of the coronavirus pandemic.
Ken Loo, secretary-general of the Garment Manufacturing Association in Cambodia (GMAC), said the move would help ensure that the sector remained competitive during the COVID-19 pandemic.
It was strongly criticised by the Clean Clothes Campaign non-profit, which works to improve conditions in the global garment industry, which said reducing the minimum wage would hit workers who were already struggling to make ends meet...
