We have the greatest respect for the fact that there are different opinions regarding a project like Öyfjellet wind farm, both positive and negative. The project has gone through an extensive permit process including environmental impact studies and studies on potential negative effects on other interests in the area. During the process different opinions and issues has been heard according to Norwegian laws and regulations. Concession was granted by Norwegian authorities in 2016 and finally decided by the Norwegian Ministry of Energy and Petroleum in 2018. The project has big support in the local community, and we have signed over 100 voluntary agreements with different stakeholders in the area. Unfortunately, we have not yet managed to reach an agreement with the reindeer district despite many attempts throughout the process, both before the concession was granted and afterwards.

It is our firm belief that coexistence is possible between the wind power facility and the migration of reindeer the specific years when this area is passed when moving the animals between winter grazing area number 5 and summer grazing areas. Winter grazing area number 5 is one of several that the reindeer district has access to, and it is not used every year so the issue of safe migration is not one that will occur every year. For many years we have tried to reach an agreement with the reindeer district to facilitate a safe migration the years that winter grazing area 5 is to be used but we have yet to succeed. We continue to believe in coexistence between reindeer herding both as a cultural heritage and business and the production of clean renewable energy at Öyfjellet wind farm.

During the permitting process the Norwegian authorities have held several separate consultations with the reindeer district and several mitigating measures have been presented by us.
