Honduras: Peasant leader who denounced the CEO of the agricultural company Dinant to the Public Prosecutor's Office is killed
Omar Cruz Tomé, president of the peasant cooperative Los Laureles, was murdered on 18 January in Tocoa, Colón. Members of the cooperative accuse the agricultural company Dinant of being involved in the crime, considering that, a few days earlier, the defender had denounced the company's CEO, Miguel Mauricio, to the Public Prosecutor's Office for allegedly being an "actor and accomplice" of the armed group "Los Cachos".
According to the Valle del Aguán Agrarian Platform, the Honduran state had already been informed of the threats and attacks suffered by the peasants. On 27 October 2022, the Platform reported the existence of an alleged plan by agro-industrial companies in the region to assassinate the main leaders of Aguán.
The BHRRC invited Dinant to comment on the allegations and the response is available.
