Kappes, Cassiday & Associates response to press articles raising concerns that its operations are affecting indigenous peoples in Guatemala
[The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Kappes, Cassiday & Associates to respond and the company sent the following response ] ...Nacahuil is not very close to our project – probably an hour’s drive from it. Nacahuil is sufficiently far from the mine that happenings there are not related to our project. The “massacre” was a very unfortunate event, but was simply a local issue. It is really sad that such things occur. While our project would probably not have any beneficial effect on Nacahuil, in fact it would significantly improve the conditions in the nearby communities and lead to less violence due to domestic and communal frustrations.
