Mexico: Government holds Grupo Mexico responsible for Sonora waste spill in 2014

Desinformémonos

Almost ten years later after the waste spill from a copper mine in the state of Sonora, a new 239-page report by Mexico's Environment Department confirmed that the spill was caused by "inadequate design" of the company's dam.

Now, the government also announced that it has been pursuing a criminal complaint against the company, the country's biggest copper producer, aiming at forcing a new remediation effort. On the other hand, residents of Sonora have been protesting, claiming that the government continues to fail in cleaning up the spill in the Sonora River.
