Miguel Guimaraes, vice-president of the Interethnic Association for the Development of the Peruvian Jungle (Aidesep) and leader of the Shipibo-Konibo people, suffered an attack. According to reports, his home in the district of Yarinacocha in the city of Pucallpa was attacked and broken into during the night. The perpetrators burned windows, forced open doors and stole the indigenous leader's belongings. They also left a message on the wall of his house, where the words ‘He is not alive’ can be read. The events took place while Guimaraes was returning to Peru after his participation in the Third Conference of the Parties to the Escazú Agreement (COP 3 Escazú) in the city of Santiago de Chile. The leader denounced in various media the complicity between the authorities and the company Ocho Sur. The attack occurred while Guimaraes has been denouncing in national and international forums the advance of illegal activities in indigenous territories.
