This key trends report analyses five years of the Corporate Human Rights Benchmark (CHRB), which yielded in-depth data on corporate human rights practices in five high-risk sectors from 2018 to 2023. Going beyond comparing the performance of individual companies, this report provides a holistic view of the state of play of business and human rights, identifying where progress has been made and where persistent challenges remain. Our analysis shows the urgent need for companies to scale up integration and implementation of the UNGPs and transform policies into meaningful actions. These insights inform our engagements with various stakeholders and prompted reflections on the CHRB’s role in creating a pathway for improved corporate human rights practices.

After five iterations of the CHRB, our analysis shows that a major factor of influence on companies’ progress is the way they are engaged by their stakeholders. Collaborating with our Allies and partners has proven instrumental in moving the needle. While the changes in company disclosure highlighted in this report are promising, there is still a considerable distance to cover before the impact of these changes is tangibly experienced by rightsholders themselves...
