In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the mining company Tenke Fungurume mining (TFM) has finally decided to move more than 1,000 families from the Mano-Mapia district to Fungurume, some 120 km from Kolwezi. Indeed, for more than six months, this subsidiary of the Chinese group CMOC had been accused of environmental pollution by the copper and cobalt processing plant.

Where the mining company Tenke Fungurume mining (TFM) is located, near the residential houses of the Mano-Mapia district, cases of skin disease, nosebleeds and even deaths due to this pollution have been recorded.

The special commission set up by the provincial government of Lualaba, in Kolwezi, of which TFM is a member, first proceeded to identify households affected by air and soil pollution.

Mr. Jean has been living in the Mano-Mapia district for about ten years. Today, he is relieved: "I thank TFM, because she heard our screams. We complain of nosebleeds; Some of our children have died. It's good news that she agreed to move us.”
