[Summary translation prepared by Business & Human Rights Resource Centre]

Belaya Gora to pay 735,000 rubles for polluting stream, 1 March 2024

Nikolayevsk-on-Amur Interdistrict Environmental Prosecutor’s Office conducted an inspection of environmental law compliance by LLC Belaya Gora (part of Highland Gold) in Khabarovsk Krai. As a result of the inspection, the company was fined 735,000 rubles.

The investigation revealed that the company had discharged wastewater into the Pokrovsky stream with concentrations of harmful substances exceeding permissible limits. There was also no designated area for production waste storage, and leftover metal structures were stored directly on the ground. Furthermore, the company submitted inaccurate information on discharge volumes to the regulatory authority after the deadline, and payments for negative environmental impact were made late.
