X Corp's biometric data sharing with Israeli firm raises privacy concerns
In August 2023, Doha News, an outlet media, published a report revealing that X Corp, formerly known as Twitter, was planning to require its XBlue subscribers to provide biometric data, including a selfie and a government-issued ID, to the Israeli company AU10TIX as part of the verification process. According to the report, AU10TIX was founded by former agents of Israel’s Shin Bet general security service, which raises serious privacy concerns among digital rights experts regarding the users of the social media platform.
The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited X Corp and AU10TIX to respond to concerns over the potential impact on the right to privacy of XBlue subscribers in relation to the new X verification process. X Corp and AU10TIX did not respond.
