13 Nepali men arrived in the UAE on visit visas after paying nearly Rs200,000 each to a recruitment agent in Lalitpur. All of them were duped by the agent and trapped in the UAE for a month. The men have returned to Nepal and contacted the government agencies in the recent weeks seeking for help.

An officer at the Department of Foreign Employment in Nepal stated that the youth men were duped by a local sub-agent and of the Target Immigration and Education Consultancy. The department visited the agency, after receiving a number complaints that the agency was sending workers to Europe with false promises of jobs, and met the youths who were duped by this agency. The department found that the Target Immigration and Education Consultancy does not have a licence from the department to export workers and was operating unlawfully. As such, the department decided to seal the office of the agency.

The department stated that it will further investigate the matter as it was told by the youths that there are many Nepalis duped by job agents and who are trapped in the UAE.
