Family of deceased 28 year-old Sanjib Raya from Nepal spoke to English news outlet the Mirror about the lack of accountability of deaths of migrant workers in Qatar who toil to make the Qatar 2022 World Cup possible.

Raya passed away in November 2021 in Qatar working for Galfar Al Misnad, a key World Cup projects contractor whose portfolio include Al-Bayt Stadium which will host the opening ceremony. Galfar Al Misnad paid £1,500 in final settlements to the family, but the family still claims Raya was in perfect health before he left for Qatar and the harsh working conditions in very hot whether contributed to the deterioration of his health.

Raya's family also see FIFA as complicit, and they questioned whether they'll be paying compensation, claiming "they have blood on their hands".

"FIFA has been informed Mr Raya was not involved in any FIFA World Cup 2022 projects but any death is a matter of deep regret and our thoughts and sympathies are with his family."
