The Assembly of co-proprietors against mega wind energy projects works to defend the territory of Unión Hidalgo in Oaxaca against the imposition of mega wind energy projects that threaten the environment and local communities. Due to their activism, defamatory comments and direct threats against the Resistance Committee have been spread across social media and local radio stations. Currently the companies operating in the area are Desarrollos Eólicos de México (DEMEX) subsidiary of the Spanish company, Renovalia Energy and Empresa Eólica de Oaxaca, S.A.P.I. de C.V., subsidiary of the French company Electricité de France (EDF).
