Brookfield response regarding the report No more violence: Unmasking Canada at the UN periodic review
The allegations that ISAGEN’s Sogamoso hydroelectric facility in Colombia are causing “significant damage to ecosystems and local communities” are unfounded. Our Sogamoso facility annually generates enough clean, reliable and affordable renewable energy to power ~1.5 million homes in Colombia or ~7% of the country’s electricity consumption, and over its 9 years of operation has been operated in compliance environmental regulations. ISAGEN considers socio-environmental aspects of its actions from the earliest stages of project development and throughout operations, and regularly engages with its stakeholders. ISAGEN, and the Sogamoso project, have invested to preserve local ecosystems and support local communities and have a robust approach to community consultation and engagement, conducting activities in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.
