The detention of workers came on July 27 as they protested the dismissal by factory management of those involved in a bid to set up a union through legal channels. "No illegal dismissal! We want to go back to work!" they chanted in a protest last week outside the factory…Seven workers also said they had been beaten up by police for their involvement in the campaign to found a union. "When the police came, they knocked us to the ground without a second thought and started to beat us up," one of the seven said in a video statement posted to SACOM's Facebook page.
