Devki factory workers in protest as five die [Kenya]

Workers at [the Devki Steel Mills] steel factory [outside] Nairobi...demanded improved wages and protective clothing following the deaths of five of their colleagues in an explosion suspected to have been triggered by a live mortar...The company’s labourers ...claimed the company flouted labour laws saying they worked longer hours and that most of them were not supplied with protecting gear. But the company [said] that a safety committee had been established at the company to educate the workers on precautionary measures during emergencies.
