[ Japanese-to-English translation: Business & Human Rights Resource Centre ]
In the Guidelines on Respecting Human Rights in Responsible Supply Chains, developed by the Japanese government in September 2022, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) decided to prepare materials to present the details of efforts to respect human rights in a more concrete and practical way and has now prepared and published them as Practical Reference Materials for Respecting Human Rights in Responsible Supply Chains.
This document contains detailed explanations and case studies on the 'establishment of human rights policies' and 'identification and assessment of adverse impacts on human rights (risks of human rights violations)', which are first considered by companies taking action in accordance with the Guidelines. Specifically, it provides examples and explanations of items to be included in human rights policies, as well as explanations and references for the steps to identify where high risks exist in the supply chain.
