Letter from The Treaty Alliance, the Global Campaign to Reclaim Peoples Sovereignty, Dismantle Corporate Power and Stop Impunity, ESCR-Net, African Coalition for Corporate Accountability & Feminists for a Binding Treaty

...We believe the serious concerns raised during the 8th session must be addressed to ensure that the process moves forward in a way that is transparent, inclusive and ensures the effective participation of States, civil society, Indigenous Peoples, peasants and trade unions to successfully fulfil the mandate of the working group.

To this end, and in view of the last day of the 8th session, we would like to advance the following suggestions:

- The third revised draft and comments to it proposed by States during the 7th and 8th session must remain the only authoritative basis for all negotiations by States...

- It is imperative that a clear plan and calendar of work be adopted in the final report of the session...

- In accordance with established practice, civil society organisations, Indigenous Peoples, peasants and trade unions from all regions should be consulted in a manner that is inclusive, meaningful and transparent throughout the process.

- We urge the IGWG to guarantee the implementation of the decisions adopted in the final report of the 7th session, and to advance towards a clear and transparent methodology, through consultations with the regional groups, as already established in other sessions...

- Due to their irreconcilable conflict of interest, businesses should not be given space to influence the treaty negotiations...
