Primark's Response

In October 2021, we instructed suppliers with Primark-approved factories in Karnataka that we expect them to pay the mandated increase in the minimum wage, and associated arrears, to their workers. We are also working closely with the ETI and other ETI-member brands to progress this issue with local stakeholders. Meanwhile, we continue to operate our Ethical Trade audit programme on the ground in the region. This assesses our suppliers and their factories' compliance with our Code of Conduct – a condition of doing business with Primark - of which a key tenet is ensuring the statutory minimum wage is paid. Should our audits uncover any failure to comply with this, or any part of our Code, our team in India will work with the suppliers and factories to agree an immediate corrective action plan.
