A mineral processing plant of the Congo Dongfang International Mining (CDM) company located next to Lukuni station in Kawama, near the city of Lubumbashi, is leaking a toxic gas that contaminates the air in the village, residents say. According to them, the toxic gases have already caused health problems for residents, including children and women. Acid from the factory also burned fields in the village. The company never reacted despite negative impacts. It has never taken concrete measures to minimize its environmental impact, residents say.
