On 5 June 2024, two members of the Farmers Unity Committee (Comité de Unidad Campesina, CUC) who were travelling with human rights lawyer José Domingo, were ambushed and injured in Guatemala. Domingo was killed. He well known for supporting the farmers´ movement, defending indigenous rights and the rights of communities to their land and territory. The CUC is an organisation that supports agricultural workers and defends land rights.
