Bangladesh: Almost 1,000 garment workers protest demanding unpaid wages following factory closure; incl. co. responses

In December 2023, it was reported that nearly 1,000 workers of DIRD Composite Textiles staged a sit-in in front of the Department for Inspection of Factories and Establishments (Dife) and the Department of Labour (DoL), demanding arrears amounting to nearly Tk 70 crore. The workers were reportedly laid off through an announcement on September 23, with the factory citing losses incurred by the company and lower inflow of work orders from international retailers and brands.

In March 2024, Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited ALDI South, Boohoo, MANGO, Matalan, OVS SpA, s.Oliver and Tom Tailor to respond. The responses can be found below.
