Kazakhstan: Concerns over deadly accidents at ArcelorMittal's plant in Temirtau & violations of environmental laws
A letter by Kazakh NGO QaraQar/Black Snow raises concerns about numerous fatal incidents that were allegedly caused by safety violations at ArcelorMittal's plant in Temirtau, Kazakhstan. Since the beginning of ArcelorMittal's mining operations in Kazakhstan in 1995, 13 significant accidents happened, resulting in over 140 fatalities and severe injuries. In addition, the authors of the letter claim that ArcelorMittal Temirtau breaches national and international environmental legislation by causing significant pollution.
