Mexico: NGOs & academics protest against Coca-Cola FEMSA bottling plant citing water scarcity & health impacts of soft drinks in Chiapas
NGOs and academics protested against a Coca-Cola FEMSA´s bottling plant in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico. They claim that there is scarcity of water in the region while the plant consumes more than 750,000 liters per day. They also denounced negative health impacts of the population in the Highlands of Chiapas allegedly linked to soft drinks consumption.
The Business & Human Rights Resources Center invited Coca-Cola FEMSA and FEMSA to respond to these allegations; the companies sent a joint response available here.
