Myanmar: Military called to garment factory to handle labour dispute; incl. co. responses
In February 2024, it was reported that workers at Beaume International Garment, where Popular Garment was initially based, had the police and army called in by the employer over a labour dispute, regarding confusion as to what factory the workers are employed under, as they are currently working in both and those that worked in Popular Garment are not receiving their legally owed seniority benefits. The workers reported anxiety due to excessive targets, the denial of permanent contracts and dismissal of day labourers, child labourers forced to work in unsanitary and unsafe conditions, wage cuts if workers take leave.
