Peru: Following local protests in 2015 against MMG Las Bambas mining project, judicial authorities continued trial against 20 community leaders and peasants

Several Peruvian and Intl. civil society organizations have produced statements against the legal process against 20 community members that started after serious clashes that ended with 3 protestants killed by the police and dozens more injured, in 2015. The reason for the clashes was the lack of free, prior and informed consent (FPIC) about the modification of the Environmental Impact Study of the Mining & Metals Group, MMG Las Bambas Project [part of China Minmetals] and the breaches of commitments by the company. Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited the company to respond. The company declined because the case is under study of a court.
