Polish businesses and ordinary citizens scramble to help Ukrainian refugees, 27 February 2022

As the war in Ukraine intensifies, Polish authorities said on Saturday that over 115,000 Ukrainians have arrived in Poland since Thursday, with over 47,500 on Friday alone...

Poland’s largest supermarket chain Biedronka said all of its Ukrainian employees (1,800) will receive a payment of 1,000 zloty ($243) as “a gesture of solidarity.” The company announced it’s working to simplify a procedure to hire family members of current Biedronka employees.

Inglot, a large cosmetics company headquartered in the border city of Przemyśl, has offered work and accommodation to those fleeing their homeland.

Panek, a car sharing sevice, offered 1,000 of its 2,500 cars to volunteers to transport people in need at the Polish-Ukrainian border over the weekend. The appeal was so successful that all vehicles were booked after a few hours.

Private healthcare provider Lux Med offered free services to Ukrainians and sent some of its medics to assists refugees at the border.

Hotels and hostels along the border have provided free accommodation, and appealed to others across the country to do the same. The owner of Hotel PRL Rzemieślnik in Zakopane posted a video on Facebook in which he urged other hotels in the town to welcome Ukrainians in a gesture of solidarity...
