Response from Whole Foods Market to allegations of child labour in its supply chain

"Thank you for reaching out. Just want to clarify the NYT piece does not call into question the labor practices of any Whole Foods Market facilities. Regarding our suppliers, we have conducted a thorough investigation and have not found any evidence to support this report’s findings.

As background, we require that all Whole Foods Market products and services be sourced and/or produced in a way that meets our high standards, in line with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the Core Conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO), and other third-party groups. The integrity of our standards is important, and that is why we also work with internationally recognized third-party groups like Fair Trade USA and the Equitable Food Initiative, to verify social and environmental practices and/or working conditions of the suppliers we work with. Any supplier who fails to meet these requirements and expectations is subject to termination as part of our zero-tolerance policy."
