On 12 September, an office of Environmental Watch on the North Caucasus (EWNC) was searched by police in Krasnodar. The search was conducted as part of investigation in a criminal case filed against EWNC activist Aleksandr Savelyev. He is charged with collaboration with “an undesirable organization”. Environmental Watch on North Caucasus (EWNC) is a Russia-based non-profit organization that works to protect the environment of the Caucasus region since 1997. EWNC has actively campaigned against a number of large scale Russian oil and gas projects including the CPC and Blue Stream pipelines. The organization was declared as foreign agent. The label requires groups to undergo audits and declare this status on all their materials or face large fines.
