On October 30, 2021, police clashed with fishing communities from the villages bordering the Rio Tinto QMM mining site in Tolagnaro - Fort Dauphin, Madagascar, protesting the loss of livelihood allegedly caused by the mining. Four people were reportedly injured and a few people have passed out. Two spokespersons were arrested, namely the honorary president of the F.P.E. association, Eugène Chretien Ratovondrainy, who has been an activist for fishermen rights for more than seven years, and the vice-president Simon Bedango Razafinandriana.
