Marta Gonzalez and Luis Carlos Buob Concha had arrived at the international airport of Managua from San José, Costa Rica. Mr. Buob was denied entry. When the agent asked Mr. Buob about the purpose of his visit he replied that he was a lawyer and a human rights defender, and that was there for several working meetings, mentioning the Nicaraguan Centre for Human Rights (CENIDH). In response, the immigration agent took his passport and about 20 minutes later, with two more agents, who informed Mr. Buob that he could not enter the country because he was "accused of drug trafficking". In the meantime, Ms. Gonzales' visa has been revoked, as well. They were told to get on the next plane to Costa Rica and were told to "walk if they didn't want violence". Both defenders work for the Centro por la Justicia y el Derecho Internacional (CEJIL). Mr. Luis Carlos Buob is focusing on Nicaragua and had participated in a hearing thematic issues that addressed the problem surrounding the construction of the Gran Interoceanic Canal soon before the event.
