Qatar blacklists 807 companies for violating labour laws

"Qatar blacklists 807 companies for violating labour laws", 23 June 2015

Qatar’s Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has “blacklisted” 807 companies this year for violating national labour laws, it was reported on Tuesday. According to the Peninsula, the blacklisted companies are barred from recruiting new workers. They also cannot bid for government tenders or apply for new leases on warehouses. The newspaper reported that the ministry has so far blacklisted 3,913 companies in an unspecified period of years — around five percent of the total of around 45,000 of companies registered in Qatar...He added that the bans are lifted if the companies rectify their mistakes, and that ongoing labour reform – in particular related to payment of salaries and workers’ accommodation – is having a positive impact on the working conditions for employees.
