USA: Nabisco workers strike over proposal to change work shifts & healthcare benefits; incl. company comments

Hundreds of union employees at Nabisco bakeries have gone on strike to protest proposed changes to work shifts and healthcare benefits amid contract negotiations with parent company Mondelez International, Inc. Union leaders have said that Mondelez has proposed switching from eight-hour shifts, five days a week, to 12-hour shifts, three or four days a week, without overtime, and with increased mandatory work on weekends without extra pay.

Mondelez said it was disappointed in its workers' decision to strike and that it's goal is to bargain in good faith to reach new contracts that continue to provide employees with good wages and competitive benefits, while also taking steps to modernize some contract aspects.
