Bangladesh: Nearly 150,000 tea workers stage a nation-wide protest urging a wage increase equivalent to $3 per day
Nearly 150,000 Bangladeshi tea workers stage a nation-wide protest urging a wage increase from 150 Tk per day to 300 Tk. Tea workers in Bangladesh are the country's lowest-paid workforce. Some workers resumed work after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave an assurance to hear the workers' plight and increased the daily wage to Tk170. Other groups, however, disagree with the work resumption.
