UAE: Filipino seafarer allegedly subject to exhaustive tasks under scorching heat prior to collapse & death; incl. co. non-response

The family of a Filipino seafarer who died onboard a boat while on port call in the United Arab Emirates has said they will file a case against their relative's manning agency "for the apparent negligence and disregard for the safety and health of crew members". The worker reportedly collapsed on board the Star Gwyneth where he had been ordered to perform "exhaustive cleaning and sweeping under scorching heat", co-workers have said.

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited the staffing agency, StarOcean Manning, to respond to the allegations and to disclose information on how they address the risk of heat exposure for crews, including what steps they take to engage clients on this issue.

Star Ocean Manning did not respond to the Resource Centre's request for comment.
