E.ON statement

[Initial response from E.ON]

thanks for your request.

E.ON does not have any operating business in Ukraine. Our business focus is clearly on Europe. In Russia specifically, we solely hold a minor historical participation in a Joint Venture with Uniper, which provides projects for business customers.

Accordingly, I ask for your understanding that answering the questionnaire does not seem appropriate for us.

Thanks for your understanding.

[Response from Business & Human Rights Resource Centre]

"Thank you for your response. We invited E.ON to respond to our survey questions since this resource alleges the following:

«The German company does not have long-term gas supply contracts with Russia, but it still buys some of its gas from Gazprom trading companies based in Europe. E.ON holds 15.3% stake in the pipeline Nord Stream 1 through its pension fund and has not shown intentions of backing out of the project.»"

[E.ON statement regarding allegation]

That is correct.

Since giving up our stake would mean giving our governance rights in Nord Stream 1 to the Russian majority owner, we have made a conscious decision to maintain our minority shareholding until further notice. We support the course of the German government and the European Union, which are currently avoiding any measures that would damage Europe more severely than Russia and thus limit our options for action in this crisis. Nord Stream 1 plays a key role in Europe's gas supply. A stop would have serious consequences. Both for security of supply as a whole and for the European economy.

We are monitoring the war in Ukraine closely and with great concern. E.ON condemns war as well as violence and fully supports the political sanctions that have been decided in Europe and Germany. Our thoughts are with the affected people in Ukraine.
