Georgia: Nenska hydropower project accused of adverse impacts on environment, community livelihoods, indigenous people & women, incl. co. response

There has been a number of reports by media and social society organisations alleging the Nenskra hydropower project will deprive the local indigenous communities of their ancestral lands and traditional livelihoods, and cause an irreversible damage to the environment. Some reports argue the project will have a disproportionate impact on women and that it lacks a comprehensive environmental & social impact assessment.

The Nenskra hydropower project is being implemented by JSC Nenskra, a joint venture of the Korea Water Resources Corporation & the Georgian state’s Partnership Fund.

Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited JSC Nenskra to respond to the allegations mentioned above. JSC Nenska responded. The company response is available below.
