On February 23, 2018, Jorge Washington Acosta, union leader of agricultural workers and banana farmers in Ecuador, reported receiving a death threat from an unidentified caller. The caller allegedly ask him "Do you know how whistle-blowers are murdered?" Mr. Washington Acosta is well known for his work against unfair working conditions in the banana industry.
