Myanmar: CSO reports reveal the post-construction social impacts of Myanmar-China Oil and Gas Pipeline

“[T]he Myanmar-China Pipeline Watch Committee (MCPWC), the only civil society organization in Myanmar dedicated to monitoring the [Myanmar-China Oil and Gas Pipeline] Project, launched a research project to understand the post-construction social impact on the affected population living along the pipeline. [I]t…published the comprehensive social research document…[that] describes in detail how a large-scale foreign direct investment project in the country’s oil and gas sector generated environmental destruction and had a major social impact on the life and livelihood of Myanmar’s farmers. One year after, the [MCPWC]…published a follow-up report…. [that aims] to inform all the concerned stakeholders on how MCPWC has been applying the research findings into the practical work within one year as well as the responses of the Myanmar government, parliaments, and the project companies.”
