New Zealand: Immigration authority revokes construction co. Zero Max Line's license after Uzbek workers dismissed, unpaid & in debt

Immigration New Zealand has revoked the accreditation of Zero Line Max, a gibstopping company, after allegations it had mistreated Uzbek migrant workers came to light. In September 2023 15 male workers said they had paid large sums to come to work for the company, including selling possessions and property only to find on arrival they had to pay for their own tools, uniform, vehicles and site safe certificates. They were guaranteed fewer hours than their visas stated and signed agreements in English, without being able to read the agreements presented. Workers were not paid properly and some returned home. The workers had been granted visas under the Accredited Employer Work Visa scheme.

In December Stuff reported Immigration NZ had revoked the company's accreditation and a company that had contracted Zero Line Max, Gibset, said it had terminated the contract as soon as allegations of mistreatment came to light.
