…He gave four interviews to Immigration New Zealand (INZ) about how he’d paid a ‘premium’ for his job, been hugely underpaid…

…he agency only gave Seemar’s boss a formal warning…

Both men had been working in Auckland on the national fibre broadband rollout for a subcontractor called Tork Engineering, owned by businessman Junaid Shaik.

They complained to Chorus, which oversaw the fibre programme and so was Tork’s ultimate boss. Chorus in turn hired ethical labour investigators AIM CRI, and the two men told them their story…

… while he often worked more than 60 hours a week, Seemar was initially paid for just 20 and instructed to return $400 a week in cash to the business….

… Chorus duly cancelled Tork’s contract and dipped into a welfare trust account to pay Muzammil and Seemar $10,000 each in compensation…

…He says Chorus was “running to keep up with demand, and the bit we missed ... we didn’t pick up the risk of migrant exploitation. Frankly, we didn’t understand it…

… a new company, Safe Scaffolding, was set up. It was registered to Shaik’s home address …

Garg says Shaik had no involvement in the company…

Junaid Shaik denies any wrongdoing…
