Glencore's response

'Our Code of Conduct sets out our requirement to hire, promote, reward and offer development opportunies based on qualifications, capabilies, performance, ethical behaviour and alignment with our Values. We provide fair and equitable conditions of employment to employees, in line with local requirements. We believe in the principle of equal pay for work of equal value and contribution. We provide all employees with equal access to pay calculations and transparency of pay in line with their agreed and lawful terms and conditions of employment for work performed in line with global standards and local requirements. Our Supplier Code of Conduct requires contractors to comply with all applicable laws, including laws concerning labour rights.

In the DRC, the Provincial Labour Inspector conducts an annual inspection to ensure all employees receive minimum wage and comply with DRC labour law. We review salaries and discuss them with unions to ensure that our wages are competitive in the market and keep pace with inflation. We believe that this approach allows us to attract and retain local talent in the DRC, which is critical to our ongoing success. '
