Response from Kosmos Energy to Oxfam's open letter
"Kosmos Energy believes resource revenues are more likely to be managed in the best interests of a country if payments and receipts are made transparently, and if accountability measures are in place for the use of these revenues. Ideally this process is underpinned by a national dialogue in which industry serves as a partner with government and civil society.
Kosmos Energy is proud to be a Supporting Company of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI). Since joining EITI, we have worked hard to meet or exceed EITI expectations. To do this, we:
- Disclose our payments to governments on a country-by-country and project-level basis
- File with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) our petroleum agreements and production sharing contracts with host governments and publish links to them on our website at https://www.kosmosenergy.com/transparency/. We believe we are the only U.S. oil and gas company to disclose this information; and
- Advocate in favor of increased transparency in our host countries and within the oil and gas sector, including sending letters to the SEC supporting the implementation of Section 1504 of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.
Over the years, we have also supported the efforts of several host nations as they explored becoming EITI implementing countries and served on EITI multistakeholder groups and steering committees.
Kosmos Energy believes this approach to transparency is good for our business – helping us to manage social and political risks and establish Kosmos as a partner of choice. We remain committed to engaging with stakeholders on transparency and strong resource governance."
