Ruth's Chris Hit With Class Action Discrimination Suit [USA]
If you were hired as a waitress at Ruth’s Chris, a national chain of upscale steakhouses, it would be easy to feel as if you were entering a female-friendly work-place...[A]ccording to a new lawsuit, granted the right to request class-action status...that assumption would be grossly incorrect. ...Women formerly employed by the restaurant chain, in positions that range from bartender to national sales manager, allege that the company routinely discriminates against women in pay, promotions and terminations as well as maintaining a “sexually-charged” work environment in which women are subject to “sexually hostile and demeaning behavior” from male coworkers and supervisors...The decision to grant the suit—formally just three unnamed plaintiffs–the right to class action status is a huge victory in discrimination cases in the wake of the recent Walmart v Dukes precedent that ruled its plaintiffs did not have enough in common to classify as a “class.”
