Southern African grassroots women protest coal companies' negative social, health, environmental impacts; Sasol and Vale respond
More than 50 grassroots women activists from organizations in South Africa, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana met in February 2015 to "take a stand against coal companies". Participants raised a litany of concerns regarding the negative impacts of coal operations, including among others pollution, climate change, ill-health, displacement, loss of livelihood, access to food and water and other related concerns. Business and Human Rights Resource Centre invited Sasol and Vale to respond: the responses of both are below.
