"Princess Power Garment wants the workers to have full security benefits", 6 March 2023
Workers at the Princess Power Garment factory in North Ukkala Township, Shwepokkan Industrial Zone, Yangon Region, want to receive full welfare benefits because they do not receive social security benefits.
"Now, I pay social security every month and I don't get benefits like other factories...Day apprentices and those under age are not given permanent employment....Permanent employees receive 4,800 day wages and overtime pay. Even though I have to contribute to the welfare, I am not entitled to benefits. Can't get 10 days of work leave. 10 days before Thingyan...No annuities or welfare benefits...
There are 50 or more workers working as day laborers in that factory, and these workers do not have to work as permanent employees. The workers who have not reached the age of majority are only working for a daily wage of 3,600 kyats. Those who are of age are working as day laborers for 4,800 kyats.
It is reported that the factory is owned by Myanmar nationals and operates with over 200 factory workers.
In addition, there is no labor union organized in the factory, and because there are labor rights violations, the relevant departments did not give the workers the opportunity to answer when they made inspections.
The factory workers, despite the monthly cuts in their social security payments, do not receive social security cards, nor do they receive social security benefits and vacations, so they want to receive these benefits in full, and they want to be appointed as permanent employees as day laborers, and they want to get labor rights.
