"Labours who resign from Xinda Home Textile have been paid a reduced grade bonus" 14 October 2023
Xinda Home Textile from Shwe Pyi Thar Industrial Zone has reduced [the] grade bonus [of workers] who quit their jobs, the workers said. In the last month before resigning, the labourers said that they had not made any mistakes and had met [their targets], but the[ir] wages were reduced.
"The supervisors...said that wages will be reduced if we resign. An A+ great grader is reduced to a C [grade bonus]..." said the labourer who quit his job.
It is said that grade specifications in the factory are divided into A+, A, B and C. The labourer also said that there is a difference of 15,000 kyats in entitlement money between these...levels.
“When the factory paid my wages, my grade A [bonus] was reduced to grade B...Great A is 37,000 MMK. As for B, it is 22,000 MMK. The other disadvantage is that the daily allowance is 500 MMK for A level. B gets 300 MMK...," said a female labour who quit her job.
At Xinda Home Textile, around 20 people leave [the factory] every month, and there are monthly interviews to replace those who have left. The female labour said that due to the financial damages, some of her plans to quit her job and study were affected.
"I quit my job to attend a distance learning university. I worked hard all month to pay for my studies. Being a[n] A [grade worker], the monthly income is convenient for going to school. After leaving the job [they] paid the grade B [salary], [and] all my ambitions became hopeless,” she said.
The female labour said that there [was no] announcement in the factory...that the salary [would] be reduced if she quit...
"I informed [the factory] that I will quit my job on the 23rd but I worked until 30th. There was no mention in the factory that the salary would be reduced for quitting the job. Not in the EC contract either. The super[visor]s said that this grade reduction is caused by resigning,” she said...
