Report alleges migrant workers at G4S Qatar continue to incur illegal recruitment fees; includes co response
A report by the Graduate Institute Geneva alleges exorbitant recruitment fees are widespread in G4S Qatar's operations regardless of the fact the practice has been deemed illegal by authorities. The report takes an in-depth look at the operations of G4S Qatar, a G4S Global franchise which employs 8,000 workers, many of whom migrate from South Asia and Africa.
Interviews with current and former G4S Qatar migrant workers and recruiters in the workers' countries of origin demonstrate the serious impact of recruitment fees as migrant workers have to take out loans to afford them. Data from the report suggests that fees exceed the wages paid by G4S Qatar by up to four times.
In December 2021 Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited G4S Global to respond to the concerns raised in this report. G4S responded in January 2022 and their response can be read below.
